What is a Charter School?
Charter schools are Texas public schools that are allowed
to operate under a written performance contract or
“charter” by the Texas Education Agency. Charters give
parents and students a choice of new, different and
tuition-free public schools. Charter schools are created by
dedicated founders such as parents, educators, social
service organizations, business and community leaders.
Charter schools are free to be innovative in educational
and administrative practices. Charter Schools are typically
smaller schools offering small classes. They feature
individualized attention for students, in a nurturing,
safe, and supportive environment, in addition to expanded
parental involvement.
